Performing drag shows in front of children is an issue. To involve children in an overtly sexual act crosses a line from sexual liberation to disgusting behavior by the majority of people’s standards. In the same way incest is frowned upon in modern Western societies, so is pedophilia, although both have been allowed in other civilizations and in other ways in our history, but the popular consensus is that it is disgusting today. The LGBTQ+ movement has never stopped at rolling over any convention before it, even basics like men and women being the human binary. Why would they stop at pedophilia—or Minor Attracted Persons?
Throughout history, progressives have been the most successful in the Western world, from the British Empire to the United States. Innovation tends to take precedence over stability or harmony. This drive has resulted in significant technological advancements but has come at the cost of wielding it responsibly. The modern problem lies in the dominant progressive mindset, which, in its pursuit of objectivity, has detached itself from external sources of wisdom that could moderate the progress. We have become blind in our pursuit of a Great Society, and only recently have we started to experience the consequences of this eyelessness.
Economically we have high inflation, cost of living, and gas prices. Intellectually we have queer theory and anti-humanism. Mentally we have high rates of depression and anxiety. And culturally we have nearly naked men with exposed fake breasts holding hands with a toddler.
Where have our standards gone? We do not collectively know whether what is right or wrong should be wrong or even right. Liberalism alone has created a society that is free and equal and lacking in direction and purpose, but the purpose of Liberalism has never been solely to provide direction. It seeks to allow individuals to find their own paths, based on the belief that people will naturally choose the right course when left to their own devices. Rousseau would praise the modern West, but we must give Hobbes his due, for our problems are many. The path of least resistance will be taken in the absence of a reason to not take it. Degeneracy will propagate wherever pleasure is to be found. In a state of anarchy, whether legally or otherwise, people will acquire security, be it through government or otherwise.
What is to come of these excesses? A change of trajectory or business as usual? History does tend to work in opposites, such as the darkest ages following the brightest ones, but for now it is a known unknown. What is known, however, is that most want to keep their cultures if they have done good in the past, even if it isn’t perfect now. This is true of all societies. The West is unique in having a tradition of progress, so if all things old are left in the dust, both good and bad, that progress on which we pride ourselves on may cease as well.
